I
am proud to run for
the newly established position of ComSoc VP-SA. The objective of the
invesment by ComSoc into establishing the new Standards Activities
Council is to better serve industry needs.
Since
2004 ComSoc
Standards Board initiated 14 standardization projects and 6 have been
successfully completed.
Standards
Activities rely
on partnership with IEEE-SA. In 2011 six ComSoc volunteers participate
in IEEE-SA
BoG and Standards Board. My goal is to double this number by 2014.
If
elected I will
strive to create in ComSoc a favorable to Standards Activities
ecosystem, where
standardization projects enjoy support of Technical Activities,
Conferences,
and Publications.
As
2010 TAB’s
representative to IEEE-SA I proposed a new modus operandi in
pre-standardizing
activities,
Research Groups. The intent is to facilitate industry/academia
partnership in research
of emerging technologies and in planning timely
standardization. If elected intend to insure
ComSoc’ contribution
to this program.
Participation in
standards projects allows industrial researchers to contribute research
results
to standards and for academics it creates an opportunity for impact.
As a result industry and humanity get better
standards. If elected, I will work with IEEE-SA and ComSoc TAC on
incentives for
academic and industrial researchers to contribute to standardization:
awards,
promotion to fellow grade, and visible attribution of credit for
prominent contribution
to standards.
